Buyer Map: Plasmatreat North America
Prepared for Hardev Grewal | Plasmatreat North America | October 2026
As of Oct 9, 2026. Counts from published federal statistics on US businesses for 2022, described in the notes at the foot
This page maps the US manufacturers in the industries and materials your own site names, from medical devices and electronics to aerospace, automotive parts, plastics, packaging, appliances and textiles. It counts them by size across the United States, then counts their plants in California and Illinois, where your two US labs sit. It says nothing about which of them Plasmatreat already works with.
US manufacturers in these nine industries with 20 or more staff
11,000
Companies, 2022. The nine rows in the first table added together, so a company with plants in two of these industries counts in both.
US medical device and supply makers with 20 or more staff
1,400
Companies, 2022. One of the four markets your Hayward R&D team focuses on.
Semiconductor and electronic component plants in California
930
Plants of every size, 2022. A plant is one location.
Manufacturing plants in California and Illinois with 100 or more staff
3,500
Every kind of manufacturing, 2022.
United States, manufacturers by industry and size
Companies with paid staff, sized by everyone the whole company employs, 2022.
| Industry | 20 to 99 staff | 100 to 499 staff | 500+ staff | All with 20+ |

Who signs off
The roles that usually bring in a surface treatment process or a plasma system. At a smaller plant one person often holds several of them.
| Role | Why they care |
|---|---|
| Manufacturing or process engineer | Owns the line where a bond, a paint coat or a print fails, and has to fix it without slowing the line. |
| Materials, adhesion or R&D engineer | Chooses how new material combinations get joined, and runs the trials before anything reaches production. |
| Quality manager | Lives with the delamination, the peel test failures and the returns, and wants a process that can be monitored. |
| Plant manager or VP of operations | Weighs a new inline step against throughput, floor space and the chemicals it could remove. |
| Environmental, health and safety lead | Cares when a solvent or primer step can come out of the process. |
| Procurement or capital equipment buyer | Runs the vendor review and the purchase once the engineers agree. |
What no public count reaches
Three questions this page cannot answer from a count, said in words rather than shown as numbers.
Who bonds, paints or prints on difficult surfaces. The federal counts sort plants by what they make, not by the steps on their line, so every row counts each maker whether or not it has an adhesion problem today.
Who already treats surfaces with plasma, flame, corona or primer. No public list says which plants run which pretreatment, so that comes from the conversation, not from this page.
When a new product or a new line is planned. New product launches and line changes are set inside each company and are rarely published early.
Three openings
Where the counts point.

Denominators, definitions and sources
- United States counts are employer firms in the federal annual statistics of US businesses, 2022. A firm is every location under one owner, sized by paid employees across the whole firm, and counted in each industry where it has a location.
- California and Illinois counts are establishments in the federal County Business Patterns for 2022, state file. An establishment is one location, sized by the paid employees at that location in the mid-March 2022 pay period. Size classes the file leaves blank are counted as none.
- Industry codes: 3391 medical equipment and supplies manufacturing, which includes dental laboratories (about 350 of the 1,400 US companies with 20 or more staff, and about half of the California and Illinois plants); 3344 semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing; 3364 aerospace product and parts manufacturing; 3363 motor vehicle parts manufacturing; 3359 other electrical equipment and component manufacturing, batteries included; 3261 plastics product manufacturing; 3222 converted paper product manufacturing; 3352 household appliance manufacturing; 313 textile mills. The fourth tile counts sector 31 to 33, all manufacturing.
- Organizations with no paid staff are not counted. Built from published federal statistics, counts banded deliberately. Figures of 100 and over are rounded to two significant figures, figures from 10 to 99 to the nearest ten, and figures below 10 are shown as under 10.
The named version of this page, the actual companies inside a row, is built one row at a time. If you want to walk through a row together, pick a time at cal.com/ecg. Prepared by Ben Beattie, ben@enquirerconsulting.com.
